ANNUAL SEASONAL FLU CLINIC

This was carried out on : 17th OCTOBER 2009 at BISHOPS COLLEGE and 28th OCTOBER 2009, at HAREWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL. We no longer have any stock of this seasons flu vaccine.

SWINE FLU VACCINATION PROGRAMME

The National vaccination programme - SWINE FLU Vaccination – UPDATE

We are at present sending out letters to patients who are in the “AT RISK” category.

Our first clinic is fully booked and we are waiting to receive further vaccinations before we can open up another clinic for those “AT RISK”. We are asking those patients who have received a letter to book an appointment, if they can ring at the end of November when we will have another clinic available.

If you are unsure whether you should have been called please contact the surgery.

The groups vaccinated first will be:

•those 6mths to 65 years of age who are in the current seasonal flu risk groups.
•pregnant women, in their 2nd/3rd trimester (subject to licensing)
•household contacts of immunity suppressed people, and;
•those aged 65 years or over who are in an a clinically risk group for seasonal flu.

Please note that the Department of Health has not stated that all over 65s will be vaccinated. This makes the swine flu vaccination different from seasonal flu vaccination for these groups.

This is a national campaign that will ultimately see the whole population vaccinated over phased periods and further information will be sent out as it is received.

We would encourage you to take the opportunity to have the swine flu vaccine as well as the seasonal flu vaccine as this will provide you with best immunity against both forms of flu.

Please note therefore that although you are being invited to have a seasonal flu vaccine you may not be one of the first to receive the swine flu vaccine. You may also find that one member of a household receives an invitation before another. There are very strict clinical reasons for priority groups receiving the swine flu vaccination at different times. Please speak to practice staff if you are unsure about the swine flu vaccine but please do not put pressure on staff to vaccinate if you have not been invited.
